Creating Textures using Stitch & Paint (Inspired by rust)
For this piece I bonded together 3 pieces of sheer fabrics (chiffon) and overlayed with painted bondaweb, stitch and acylic paint to build colour and texture. This piece was based on a theme of 'rust' I did for a project in college. What I like about the work is that it has rich colours and lots of depth. I looked at some techniques that Jan Beaney and Jean Little John used in 'Stitch Magic'.To finish the piece I burnt into it with a soldering iron which revealed some of the sheer fabric and created a rough, uneven texture. If you have any comments or questions about this piece, don't hesitate to ask.Below are some more samples showing the same technique:
The only thing I did differently in these samples was to melt the sheer fabric slightly by holding it over a cooker, the heat from the flame made the fabric twist and bubble creating a wonderful texture.
