Manipulating Old Photographs: Gel Medium Transfer

These samples were an experimentation using emulsion paint to transfer images on to another surface.First the image was photocopied so it had more black pigment in it and would therefore produce a better transfer. The image was then coated in a gentle layer of white emulsion paint and pressed onto a stained piece of wallpaper. It was left to dry for more than 24 hours and then the back of the image was rubbed off using warm water. What was left is what you can see, a worn image which is ripped, and still has some backing paper stuck on.The second image is a photoshopped version of the first where I edited the the colours to see what it would look like in black and white.'Image I' was one of three at the End of Year exhibition last night. Although it was just an experimentation and a simple technique was used, I thought it reflected what my work was about more than any of my more 'finished' pieces.
