'Sea Stories & Stillness' by Susannah Conway
After a bit of 'blog hopping' a few days ago I came across the work of photographer, writer and e-course creator Susannah Conway. I was particularly inspired by her stunning Polaroid images and instantly starting following her blog Ink On My Fingers. She is due to start running an e-course in February - Unravelling: Ways of Seeing Myself which I am definitely considering taking part in. I am also tempted to treat myself to her e-book Blogging Beautifully which includes useful videos, interviews, inspiring photographs, tips on writing and how to put together a beautiful blog. Here are some of my favourite photographs:
I love the colours she manages to capture and the atmosphere that is created in her Stillness Series. The soft focus and muted tones give a poignant feeling to the photographs and we are able to 'connect' with each image and almost get lost in each photograph as we are transported to a beautiful, serene place. After reading more about Susannah I begun to understand more about her own background and how it wasn't until after the death of her partner she began to rekindle her passion for photography. She believes "the camera focussed [her] attention on the present, taking [her] out of my grief and allowing [her] to connect with how [she] was feeling in the moment. It was a revelation."Her Sea Stories series features equally beautiful images which offer the same tranquility and soft hues. Here are just some more of my favourites.
You really need to see the whole series to appreciate the beauty of each one, these are just a select few which really caught my eye. The combination of texture, nature colour palette and composition just work beautifully together. You should be pleased to know that Susannah has agreed to be interviewed for blog in April after she has finished working on her new blog. But i'll be sure to write more about it nearer the time. If you want to see more of her work you can visit her website here, you won't be disappointed!
